On the sacred land of Mewar, in the revered memory of the world-renowned Sagun Vaishnav devotee Maa Meera Bai, the late Shri Prakash Varma Ji of Mewar—who devoted his life to social and cultural service—established the Meera Kala Mandir in Udaipur, Rajasthan, in the year 1955. Shri Prakash Varma Ji came from a humble family background.
As a Kathak dance master himself, he dedicated his life to the promotion of Rajasthani folk art and culture, representing India at both national and international levels across continents such as Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Under his visionary leadership, the institution carried forward the ideals of Maa Meera Bai, bringing her life, literature, and spiritual philosophy to the people through dance and theatrical performances, thereby preserving and promoting folk culture.
In continuation of his noble legacy, the Meera-Prakash Varma Foundation, Udaipur, continues to undertake new creative initiatives to keep the cultural heritage alive and to connect the younger generation with the roots of their traditional culture.
